Abstract
The use of optical fibres for the sensing of chemical species is reviewed in this paper, which is divided into three sections. The first section discusses the variety of probe designs that have been proposed and studied, the second presents the numerous applications and the sensing techniques studied to date, and the final section summarises these developments and is presented in the form of a table. Finally, conclusions have been drawn on the state-of-the-art of this new technology and on the future applications of these novel devices.Keywords
