Abstract
Methods for making these compounds highly radioactive with the avoidance of difficulties encountered in previous methods are given. The tetrahydro-furan was distilled off at 0[degree]C. The resulting dry complex containing the formaldehyde was then decomposed at -70[degree]C with methanol whereupon the condensation was possible. Li- and Al salts did not interfere. Yields of gramine from 43 to 45% calculated on the basis of the barium carbonate added were obtained in several trials, also [beta]-indoleacetic acid in a yield of 75%, and d.l-tryptophane in a yield of 69% calculated from gramine (without working up the mother liquor). The preparation of the compounds named with still greater activity, e.g., 10 mC/mM, is possible forthwith. Material with this activity can be used for plant physiological expts. since its effects are apparent in extremely small concns. Details of the procedure for making the compounds are given. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
