Abstract
The 3 separate types of visual centers, the ocelli and the primary and secondary compounds eyes of the pea aphid, are illustrated and discussed. Each system is morphologically distinct and each, within the limits imposed by its own structure, should be capable of receiving visual signals and transmitting them to the brain. Differences in the location of pigments within the ommatidia of secondary compound eye of apterous viviparous females are illustrated. The exact functions of each type of eye and reasons for differences in the movement of pigment are unknown. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
