Abstract
Studies were made of 13 spp. of plants important as waterfowl food to determine lbs. of food produced per acre, and the environmental factors affecting production. Meter quadrats, 3-5 in no., were established in min. and max. production sites. Food material was collected by hand, air-dried, and weighed in gs. Wet-weights were recorded of some yields. To correlate food production with waterfowl utilization, 441 stomachs were collected and the contents analyzed, using the aggregate volume method. In only one instance did stable water levels increase production. Food habits of ducks have changed considerably during recent years. Rice has assumed an important role, replacing many natural foods. Of environmental factors affecting yield, competition from other plants was found to be limiting.
