Abstract
The existence of 2 time factors in the metabolism of amino acids given intraven. is shown by N balance studies in 4 patients given infusions of an inadequate caloric mixture of glucose and amino acids, each patient serving as his own control. The findings indicate a greater utilization of amino acids (1) when glucose was infused at the same time, and (2) when the mixture was infused at a slower rate. These findings confirm observations made by others in humans and in animals with oral feedings.
