Abstract
Using the off-shell model for scattering based upon current algebra and a dispersion-theoretical axial-vector nucleon amplitude dominated by the isobar, we investigate the critical density for the onset of pion condensation in neutron matter. We find that condensation occurs at approximately nuclear-matter density assuming nucleon-nucleon correlations are neglected. The repulsive nature of the latter should presumably push up this critical density.
