Abstract
This commentary addresses the article titled, "Building the Capacity of Youth and Families Through University-Community Collaborations: The Development-In-Context Evaluation (DICE) Model. " The article provides scholars with guidance in conducting community outreach and evaluation. The DICE model offers community stakeholders a means for integrating needs assessment, program planning and evaluation. There are some key community realities, however, that will have to be addressed by DICE staff to move the modelfrom theory to effective practice. Three recommendations are offered. First, DICE staff will need to offerfurther clarity to community stakeholders regarding goals, purposes, and representation before it can be replicated successfully. Second, it might be usefulfor staff to more strongly orient the DICE model toward youth development and career preparation rather than toward the prevention of youth problems. Finally, it will be usefulfor staff to engage community stakeholders in discussions and consensus-building on developmental issues before implementing the DICE model. Keywords
