Abstract
Simulated records of 1,556 2-yr.-old dairy cows with dam information were used to test the accuracy of Smith''s method for estimating genetic and environmental trends in production. Accurate estimates of actual trends were obtained by pooling the regressions of production on time within sires according to the inverse of the variance of each regression. The merits of estimates of genetic parameters obtained are discussed. Corrections for the effects of culling and age of dam are presented. Keywords
