Developmental Assessment: A Test for Gross Motor and Reflex Development

Abstract
A study consisting of three components is reported. During phase 1 an extensive literature search led to a compiled set of norms for gross motor and reflex development. Phase 2 involved the testing of the resultant form for its interrater reliability and item validity. Phase 3 was the clinical trial of the revised form by informed clinicians for its usefulness in assessment of cerebral-palsied children. Since the format provides an unusual graphical display of the interrelatedness of reflex and voluntary motor behaviors, the test appears to have special usefulness as a treatment planning tool for patients with brain damage. Further clinical testing of the final form is needed.
