Abstract
Cellular changes of 3 apple cultivars (Malus domestica Borkh. cvs. Jonared, Golden Delicious, and Starkrimson) were studied anatomically in respect to specificity of injury at anthesis and for subsequent development of the fruit. Injury to primary and secondary fruitlets of the 3 cultivars was recorded as wound healing progressed. The crop of economic significance was produced from the secondary bloom on ‘Golden Delicious’ and ‘Jonared’. Tissue damage at anthesis persisted at fruit maturity. Fruit-pedicel injury was specific on ‘Jonared’ and extensive russeting was evident in the cavity region in all cultivars. Keywords
