Abstract
Cu-phthalocyanine (CuPc) single molecules, clusters and islands have been observed on gold and highly-oriented pyrolytic graphite in an atmospheric scanning tunnelling microscope (STM). CuPc was deposited using the ion cluster beam technique and vacuum evaporation. The shape and internal structure of the observed islands are discussed, as is the problem of interpreting the STM images of the CuPc molecules. Results are useful for estimating of the growth mechanism of CuPc deposited under different conditions. Keywords
