An Improved Terbium‐Activated Single‐Crystal Phosphor for Head Up Display Cathode Ray Tube

Abstract
We report a new efficient Ga3+ substituted single‐crystal phosphor grown epitaxially on a substrate. Gallium substitutions up to were made with . The total light output was measured under electron beam excitation, and we observed a 35% increase in the light output at high power density excitation over that achievable with the best films. The phosphor composition optimization with respect to Tb3+ and Ga2+ concentrations is reported. Our results are compared with literature data on similar garnet compounds prepared in powder form, or as bulk grown crystals, and films grown by liquid phase epitaxy.
