Abstract
The authors calculate the density of states of a one-dimensional tight-binding hamiltonian with off-diagonal disorder only. The method consists in solving an integral equation for the self energy, from which the density of states is obtained by simple integration. The main feature obtained is a peak at the centre of the band, which does not appear for the anderson (diagonal) disorder. The results differ considerably from a previous study of the same problem. Keywords
