Decoherence by a quantum critical environment

Abstract
We study the relation between the appearance of classicality in a quantum system and quantum criticality of its surrounding environment. We generalize the Hepp-Coleman approach for quantum decoherence by modelling the environment by an Ising model in a transverse field. We find that the quantum critical behavior of the environment strongly affects its capability of inducing decoherence: at the quantum phase transition decoherence of the quantum system is greatly enhanced.
