Abstract
Section of both vagus nerves below the bronchial hilus was followed by gaseous distention of stomach and intestines. When the left phrenic nerve was cut at the time of vagotomy, this gaseous distention did not appear although the stomach was atonic. Section of the left phrenic nerve alone was followed by gastric hypotonia, hypokinesia and the presence of a large gas bubble in the fundus of the stomach. Notwithstanding, gastric emptying time was found to be shortened considerably. The dog was the exptl. animal. Keywords
