Aneurysm of the Membranous Ventricular Septum

Abstract
We have observed three cases of aneurysm of the membranous ventricular septum. All had previously been studied, and no patient was found to have had the aneurysm at the first study. All had small ventricular septal defects, normal intracardiac pressures and small left-to-right shunts. Selective angiography accurately defined the aneurysms. Follow-up periods were three to seven years. These newly appearing aneurysms, associated with small ventricular septal defects, suggest another mechanism for their formation, apart from the congenital origin generally accepted: they may be a prelude to spontaneous closure of ventricular septal defects.
