Abstract
THE precise role of hemolysins in acquired hemolytic anemia has yet to be determined. In 1908 the discovery of these immune bodies in cases of obscure hemolytic anemia by Chauffard and Troisier1 and by Widal, Abrami and Brulé2 indicated that a new entity had been found, appropriately called "hemolysinic" anemia. For a number of years these concepts appeared to have been forgotten, and it was not until 1937, when Dameshek and Schwartz3 demonstrated hemolysins in 2 of 3 cases of acute hemolytic anemia, that a revival of interest took place. The work of these authors re-emphasized the importance of hemolysins, . . .Keywords
