Abstract
Since they are both old and poor, one might expect Old Age Assistance recipients to be enthusiastic users of community Senior Citizen Centers. This paper reports the results of a recent study which indicates the contrary, however. Based on a comparison of active members of a metropolitan center and non-active welfare recipients, the study suggests that the social context of the center may be an important factor in determining who uses it.
