Abstract
Extracts of whole corpora cardiaca of the roaches Periplaneta americana and Blaberus craniifer when injected decreased the frequency of spontaneous nerve impulses in the roach central nerve cords in vitro. Injection of the extracts into whole intact roaches caused decreased co-ordination and more stereotyped locomotor behavior. Surgical and histological evidence indicates that the active principle in the corpora cardiaca is a neurosecretory product coming from the brain.Keywords
