Abstract
Points to the difficulties in measuring the impact of information technology (IT) on industries in the service sector leading to the so-called ‘productivity paradox’, whereby companies are perceived as willing executioners, replacing employees in favour of technology that has not yet proven its worth as a productivity tool. Discusses the human factors involved in the spread of IT and reviews the literature covering recent studies that show a positive impact on productivity related to investment in IT.
