Abstract
The authors demonstrate WDM transmission in the unexplored 1580 nm band, for the first time, using newly developed gain-shifted EDFAs. By using the 1580 nm band, equally-spaced, eight 10 Gbit/s WDM channel, repeaterless transmission over 160 km dispersion-shifted fibre is achieved without any four-wave mixing degradation. Keywords
