Abstract
All too often the cause of urinary incontinence in female patients is assumed to be surgically correctable when, in fact, pharmacologic management would prove the most effective course of action. As pointed out in this article, infection, atrophy, neurologic deficit, and various voiding abnormalities are all possible causes that can be treated without, or even contraindicate, surgery. After identifying the historical, physical, and laboratory findings that aid in diagnosis, Dr Julian discusses the appropriate approach to treatment. Keywords
