Abstract
The communication between ice-dammed lakes in the Vätter and Tida basins. A communication between two ice-dammed lakes in south central Sweden, proposed by Erik Nilsson (1939), is questioned on the basis of a new topographic map and field studies. The topography of the pass of the separating ridge, Hökensås, is shown to be uncombinable with a broad channel at the suggested level. Glaciofluvial deposits in the surrounding of the passage and traces of lateral drainage are discussed. A lateral drainage channel is described which makes the existence of a marginal ice-lake all along Hökensås improbable at the time of the early Baltic ice-lake stage in the Vätter basin.
