Abstract
The Mössbauer effect in 129I was used to investigate the high valence states of iodine in IF5 and IF7. The quadrupole couplings were found to be + 1073 ± 2 Mc/sec and − 148 ± 4 Mc/sec, respectively. From these values the character of the I–F bond in these compounds was deduced. Keywords
