Abstract
Combining a differential form of the virial theorem with the Euler equation for the particle density, in a local density framework leads to a differential equation for the density, given the potential. This equation has the Thomas–Fermi density as a solution when the third derivative of the particle density is neglected. The arguments are restricted to one‐dimensional motion of independent Fermions. Keywords
