Abstract
Suggested is that social policies and programs for the aged are characterized by failure to recognize that females predominate among elderly people. Masculine bias toward independence and corresponding disregard for feminine values of relatedness have been considered in relation to studies of the interdependence of elderly people, their families, and communities. The foundations of this bias are seen in the history of old age as a social problem. Keywords
