Chemophobia

Abstract
Everyone would agree that there's a big difference between the toxic effects produced by acute or chronic exposures to neat chemicals and the safety substantiation of a product that contains these same chemicals. For example, concentrated sodium hydroxide will burn the skin and blind the eye in an acute exposure, but this same inorganic base when reacted with a fatty acid results in the production of water and a salt, in this case, soap. Washing with these chemical products cleans the skin and at the very worst only stings the eye.
