Abstract
Ludwig and Barsa (1955) compared the activity of the succinoxidase system with the rate, of O2 consumption during the egg stage of the mealworm, Tenebrio molitor. They found that enzyme activity remained constant during the first half and increased rapidly during the last half of this stage. Oxygen consumption, however, was very low in newly laid eggs. It increased rapidly during the first 24 hours and thereafter followed the same relative changes as did enzyme activity.
