Abstract
The effect of trap bait on the normal travels of P. leucopus was tested by trapping on the Patuxent Research Refuge, Maryland. Mice did not leave their home ranges because of the attraction of trap-bait in near-by areas. Preliminary trapping did not serve to pre-bait tne mice and increase captures. The value of bait in inducing mice to enter traps was also tested. Two unbaited lines of live-traps caught equal numbers of mice. When one line was baited with rolled oats and peanut butter it caught more than twice as many mice as the unbaited line. The effect of bait apparently was to increase the catch of mice that were already in the area. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
