Abstract
Exptl. methods for the detn. of natural longitudinal stresses in trees are descr. and the data are used in the development of a mathematical expression for the stress distr. Transverse stresses naturally existing within the tree are similarly investigated and the results analysed mathematically. Another significant class of stresses is shown to result directly from the felling or cross-cutting of a tree.
