Abstract
A new emission system has been observed in the singlet spectrum of nitrogen. It occurs between the two lowest excited singlet levels of the molecule. The emission is in the range of 3.3 to 8.2 μ and arises from transitions between the and states. The measurements are in good agreement with vacuum-ultraviolet-absorption data for these states.
