Abstract
The present status of 17 patients who were discharged from the hospital cured of bacterial endocarditis 6 or more years ago was determined. Seven patients died, 2 of non-cardiac causes. The 10 living patients have been followed from 6 to 10 years and 4 of them are asymptomatic. Four of the 7 patients with aortic regurgitation are now dead, and the other 3 have shown a decrease in functional capacity. This finding contrasts with that for 9 patients who had only mitral valve disease, of whom 2 are now dead, 3 have worsened symptomatically and 4 are unchanged. One patient had a tetralogy of Fallot. Keywords
