Abstract
Hypocupremia occurred in an adult with sickle cell anemia who received Zn as an antisickling agent for 2 yr. The hypocupremia was associated with microcytosis and relative neutropenia. Administration of Cu resulted in an increase in RBC [red blood cell] size and leukocyte counts. Hypoceruloplasminemia of varying degrees was observed in several other sickle cell anemia patients who were receiving oral Zn therapy. This complication was easily corrected by Cu supplementation. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
