General morphological aspects of resorption of teeth and alveolar bone

Abstract
Summary. This is a review of our present knowledge of the mechanisms involved in the resorption of teeth and alveolar bone. Special attention has been paid to the morphology and function of osteoclasts and osteocytes. The dental mineralized tissues do not normally undergo resorption and the mechanisms behind this resistance are discussed. Finally, an attempt has been made to distinguish those factors which regulate activity, of resorption from those which determine its location.
