Abstract
The economic basis of the design of steam power plant as compared with the situation recorded in Baumann (1949)† is reviewed, and the character of turbine design is illustrated by reference to two selected groups of problems, one related to the behaviour of rotors in service, the other to the design of diaphragms and some associated questions of efficiency. Keywords
