Abstract
A brief review is made of the theories of fast luminous fronts that are observed to precede shock waves in electromagnetic shock tubes. A theory proposed by Paxton and Fowler is criticized, and it is suggested that an ionization‐front theory may provide a better description of such fronts.Keywords
