Abstract
An analysis of the social, biological, fiscal, and operational characteristics of a 12-hour shift schedule, as compared to an 8-hour shift schedule, was conducted for two employee groups in the power industry. The 12-hour shifts appeared to have social advantages; the biological effects were questionable at best; and the fiscal and operational consequences were clearly disadvantageous. Keywords
