Abstract
More than 350 substituted thioureas were tested for antitubercular activity. Several of them exhibited considerable activity when admd. in the diet to tuberculous mice and guinea pigs. The presence of substituents such as certain alkoxy groups in p,p[image]-position, either with or without N, or alkyl groups, strongly enhanced this activity. Expts. with delayed and limited therapy established the high activity of certain of these substances. In guinea pig trials, 4_ethoxy_4[image]-isobutoxy thiocarbanilide, Su 1795, compared favorably with isoniazid. Many of the substances tested possess strong in vitro antimyco-bacterial activity. Little correlation exists between the in vitro and in vivo tuberculostatic action. Many of the substances tested also have strong antifungal properties. Keywords
