Abstract
A finite element method for analyzing the behavior of cracks in metal sheets which are patched with an overlay of composite material is described. The analysis includes the separate responses of the sheet, composite patch, and adhesive. Debonding of the adhesive is permitted and the stress intensity factor at the crack tip is obtained as well as the stress distribution in the patch. Keywords
