Abstract
BEGINNING in late 1956 with the distribution of commercial preparations of bovine growth hormone and ovine prolactin, workers in endocrine research the world over have been given many lots of pituitary hormone preparations, which now include ovine and bovine growth hormone, prolactin, luteinizing and thyroid—stimulating hormones, and ovine and porcine follicle—stimulating hormone. This program, originally supported by several of the National Institutes of Health, has been supported since 1959 by a single grant from the National Institute of Arthritis, Metabolism and Digestive Diseases.
