Interchain polaron tunneling intrans-polyacetylene

Abstract
The tunneling of a polaron between two chains of polyacetylene chains due to harmonic phonons is studied within the adiabatic approximation. The Franck-Condon factor for the tunneling is calculated to be 0.1, yielding a perpendicular polaron bandwidth of (0.1)4t0.03 eV. The quantum correction to the polaron energy, δEP, is found to be δEPEP6, where EP=0.6 eV is the energy of the polaron.
