Abstract
The tunneling of a polaron between two chains of polyacetylene chains due to harmonic phonons is studied within the adiabatic approximation. The Franck-Condon factor for the tunneling is calculated to be 0.1, yielding a perpendicular polaron bandwidth of eV. The quantum correction to the polaron energy, , is found to be , where eV is the energy of the polaron.
