Carbachol and magnesium sulphate were used to increase the motility of the intestine in healthy volunteers. The effect was estimated by recording changes in abdominal sounds. Serum 5-hydroxytryptamine levels were assayed and found to be higher after gastrointestinal stimulation. Keywords
