Abstract
Cs2CdBr4, at room temperature isostructural with β-K2SO4 (space group Pnma, Z=4), shows three structural phase transitions: a second order one at Tcl=252 K, a first order one at Tc2=237 K and a second order phase transition at Tc3=156 K. The non polar soft mode for the transitions at Tcl and Tc2 consists mainly of a pure rotation of rigid CdBr4 tetrahedra around the x-axis. It is very likely that phase II (Tcl>T>Tc2) is an incommensurate phase. Keywords
