Abstract
In July 1966 there appeared in my colony of the large milkweed bug, Oncopeltus fasciatus (Dallas), a male bug with a black dorsum. The top of the head, the pronotum, and the hemelytra were completely black. This melanic male was bred to a normally colored female, and about a third of the resulting progeny were black dorsally. From this stock have been bred several hundred “black” bugs.
