Abstract
Three different techniques of colonic anastomosis were evaluated in the dog. Left hemicolectomy and 2 layer anastomosis were performed in 10 dogs, 1 layer anastomosis in 10 dogs and sleeve anastomosis in 10 dogs. In each group, 5 dogs were sacrificed on the 2nd postoperative day, and the anastomotic specimen was studied by a bursting test. The remaining 5 dogs were sacrificed 7 days after operation and the specimen was studied by hydroxyproline dosage and by microscopy. The bursting test showed a significant difference between sleeve anastamosis and other techniques. The results of hydroxyproline dosage showed no significant differences between the different anastomatic techniques.
