Transport of mean zonal kinetic energy in the atmosphere

Abstract
The transport integrals across the free boundaries of a polar cap region for mean zonal kinetic energy are formulated from physical considerations. These are then incorporated as boundary terms in a zonal kinetic energy balance equation recently presented by V. P. Starr and N. E. Gaut. Various properties of the final equation are then discussed.
