Abstract
In a limited patient series free grafts of the tibial periosteum have been used in the primary repair of congenital maxillary clefts. Definite bone formation has been observed in the grafted area, and overbridging of the bony cleft has been achieved. Free periosteum can probably be applied to replace the transplantation of bone in children in selected small defects as a more plastic and easily available material. Keywords
