Ultrafiltration Characteristics of the Ultra-Flo II Coil Dialyzers

Abstract
Ultrafiltration capabilities of Ultra-Flo II Standard (U-IIS) and High (U-IIH) Ultrafiltration coils were examined during clinical dialysis. Dialysis induced net weight loss (NWL, g/min) and directly measured ultrafiltration rate (UF, ml/min) correlated more highly with mean coil pressure (MCP) than with outlet pressure in both coils. NWL was similar using either coil at any MCP. The greater resistance of the U-IIH accounts for greater UF with this coil at any outlet pressure and blood flow rate. A greater difference between UF and NWL with the U-IIH suggests a higher dialysate pressure. NWL with both coils is greater at any MCP than that with other available coils.
