Abstract
A long-sought laboratory model, a reliable system for in vivo reactivation of latent herpes simplex infection with peripheral shedding of active virus, is presented. Surgical stimulation of latently infected rabbit trigeminal ganglia induces peripheral release of infectious herpes simplex virus. Virus could be cultured from the tear film in 83% of the stimulated animals'' eyes within 48 h.This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
