PEPTIC ULCER: MEDICAL CURE BY EFFICIENT GASTRIC ACID NEUTRALIZATION

Abstract
Aluminum hydroxide gel with milk of magnesia (1/5 by vol.) is a long-acting, noncon-stipating antacid in the stomach containing little or no protein. CaCl3 with 1/10 (by wt.) of MgO in milk is a long-acting antacid, buffered in the alkaline range, without rebound, not productive of constipation or diarrhea in the stomach containing protein. These antacids with described high protein feedings achieve Sippy''s principle of ulcer protection from gastric juice corrosion. Pain cessation and ulcer healing resulted in 1288 hospitalized consecutive uncomplicated ulcer patients without production of obstruction, perforation or bleeding while under therapy. Two deaths occurred in 168 consecutive ulcer patients with hospital verified gross hematemesis and/or melena, a mortality rate of less than 2%. Three of 129 obstructed patients failed to respond to a described obstruction regimen. Tincture of belladonna, in doses of 1.5 cc. or more (or equivalent quantities of atropine), or Banthine in doses of 100 mg., decreases the amt. of antacid required to produce "free achlorhydria.".
